A project expected to offer much-needed housing in Merseyside has been backed by Liverpool star player, Steven Gerrard.
The England midfielder made himself available for the beginning of the work being undertaken at Bluebell Park, located in Gerrard’s home town of Huyton. If he has his way, there will be a number of renovations in Merseyside taking place soon.
A total of 122 homes will be featured in the project, with 101 of them available for over 55s to rent. The remaining 21 apartments will be offered to older residents on a shared ownership basis.
Gerrard said:
“Huyton is where it all began for me and a lot of my family and friends live there so I am still there quite a bit. It’s great to see they are improving the area and this will create many more jobs for people locally as well.”
Knowsley Housing Trust (KHT) is driving the £14.4 million development, in conjunction with Knowsley council. KHT chair Helen White said:
“We are very pleased that an inspirational local figure like Steven could help us to celebrate the beginning of this exciting project and the continuing development of Huyton.”
She feels that by making homes available, KHT is building communities, but further by planning for the borough’s future, it is also assisting people in becoming more successful. This is through building their skills and employability, helping them in making improvements to their neighbourhood or even turning somebody into the next star football player like Gerrard himself.
